Did you know that one garbage truck of plastic is being dumped into our oceans every single minute?

According to the World Economic Forum 32% of all plastic packaging ends up in the ocean annually. That means that if you come across 3 plastic bottles lying on the street, one of those will end up in the ocean within one year. This results in the destruction of ocean habitat, and the harmful consumption of plastic fragments by marine wildlife.

In a research that spanned the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Mediterranean, 102 sea turtles were examined. Plastic was found inside every one of them; on average each had more than 150 pieces in its gut.

By banning single-use plastic, we can keep our oceans, our turtles and ourselves healthy.

HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?

ā€œEight million tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean every year. They break down into tiny bits called microplastics, small enough to enter our food chain, along with other types of microplastics like those that are released when we wash our clothes.ā€ - WWF

We wish to acknowledge the land on which One Piece A Day operates. For thousands of years, it has been under the care of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, it is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to carry on their legacy of care for the Earth on this land.
